Hawkeye Point Tribute to Veterans, Patriotic Concert, and Community Pancake Breakfast to be Held June 18

Saturday, June 18, 2022, the public is invited to an “Old Fashioned” pancake breakfast and patriotic musical concert at Hawkeye Point.  The Hawkeye Point Foundation will be serving pancakes, sausages and a drink at the high point beginning at 11:00 a.m. and concluding at approximately 1:00 p.m.  Local resident and graduate of Sibley-Ocheyedan Schools, Jesse Dagel, will perform a patriotic musical concert, as well as some of his favorite numbers that is sure to delight those of all ages. The meal and concert are free to all residents of Osceola County and the surrounding area. However, a free-will donation will-be-accepted to help cover the costs of the food and entertainment.

Established in 2008, the Hawkeye Point Foundation has actively promoted the development of this unique Osceola County Park as well as the adjoining campground.  Residents are encouraged to tour the walk-through agricultural museum located in the old corncrib on the property, see the new corn bin shelter house at the point, as well as visit the new additions to the antique machinery display area, view the native grass and flower plots, climb to the top of the observation deck, and check out information on other Osceola County points of interest located at the kiosk at the high point. HP Foundation members want to encourage you and your family to come and see some of the many improvements at Hawkeye Point.

The event will also be an opportunity to honor area veterans and their spouses during a special tribute to those who have served this country from WWII to the present time. The Sibley VFW and American Legion will be on hand for the posting of the colors.  All area veterans are invited to attend as our special guests giving local residents the opportunity to express appreciation for your service to our country. A photo of all veterans attending will be taken at the Hawkeye Point Veteran’s Memorial Marker. In addition, convenient parking arrangements will be made for those with mobility challenges. The program will continue with the dedication of a special “History of Hawkeye Point” interpretive sign courtesy of a generous memorial gift from the Barbara Nasers family and the Lyon County Riverboat Foundation. The day will also include rides and games for the kids and the Osceola Rural Electric Cooperative employees will be offering tours of the solar farm and trips to the top of Iowa in their boom truck.

The Hawkeye Point Foundation invites you to join family and friends to honor our veterans as well as enjoy this musical tribute to our country Saturday, June 18th. Given limited seating, those attending are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket for the concert and program.
