Environment Health services offered:

Well Permits:

  • Well construction permits are required for all water supply wells installed in Iowa

Private Water Wells:

  • Free water tests on new and existing private wells are done by appointment

The County will pay the following for plugging abandoned wells and cisterns:

  • Up to $500.00 for wells
  • This money is available through the Grants to Counties Program
  • Up to $300.00 for cisterns

Onsite Wastewater Systems:

  • Any new or existing homes that are not connected to the city sewer system are required to have an onsite wastewater system.  Permit to construct, reconstruct, alter or demolish a Private Sewage Disposal System is available in the forms section
  • Effective July 1, 2009, Iowa law requires that every home/building served by a septic system have that septic system inspected prior to the sale or deed transfer for the home/building
  • Time of Transfer certified inspector list by county is available HERE
